The Canadian Forces Base located in Cold Lake, AB, referred to as 4 Wing Cold Lake, is the busiest fighter base in Canada. It provides general purpose, multi-role, combat capable forces in support of the Royal Canadian Air Force’s domestic and international roles. 4 Wing hosts an international annual air combat exercise called Maple Flag. This event attracts hundreds of people to 4 Wing, which struggled to accommodate and house these visitors.
Defence Construction Canada published a tender requesting the construction of a facility capable of housing as close to 180 beds as possible for a specified budget. 3twenty responded to the tender with an innovative modular design that gave us the competitive edge for this project.
Incredibly ambitious timeline - 59 days to design, build and install 180-person accommodation complex
Three storey building constructed using shipping containers as structural building blocks
The design integrated 90 bedrooms (double occupancy), 24 bathrooms, and 6 laundry rooms
Scope included foundation, installation, water/sewer upgrades, hookup and commissioning
“3twenty's dedication to getting the project completed on time and on budget, along with the strong ability to adapt to client/construction requirements, made the project a success. Great team of guys to work with, job well done!” - Greg Sheppard, Project Manager
