Wapaskokimaw Gas BarSandy Bay, SK
Explore ProjectThe community of Sandy Bay, SK has been without a gas bar and convenience store for years. A local Counsellor thought it was time to bring some economic activity to his community, and teamed up with 3twenty to make it happen.
Project Summary
Sandy Bay is a northern village in Saskatchewan, located approximately 600km north of Saskatoon, and is one of the eight Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation communities. With 1,200 residents, there was a clear need for the most basic amenity: a gas station and a convenience store.
The community leadership and the consultant developing the business plan engaged 3twenty early in the project. We became an integrated part of the project team, providing up front design and costing to help the owner attract financing for the project.
Once the project was funded, we began construction. We continued to consult with the project manager to ensure proper coordination of scopes. Local community members had the skillets to handle the foundation construction and looked after all the site preparation.
It was a logistically challenging project; the road between Pelican Narrows, SK and Sandy Bay, SK is narrow and windy. We had to give special attention to the safety of the building’s move.
