Explore ProjectThe Buffalo River Dene Nation Youth Centre is a vibrant and multifunctional space designed to empower the Nation's youth and celebrate community connection, culture, and growth.
Project Summary
Buffalo River Dene Nation takes pride in its tight-knit community and deep commitment to traditional ways of living, while embracing a future of growth. The Nation values opportunities that bring their community together and provide youth with experiences to connect with their language, culture, and traditions. To support this vision, they dreamed of a space that could foster these opportunities—and 3twenty was honored to collaborate with BRDN to design and build a youth center tailored to their aspirations.
Chief and Council envisioned a multifunctional space where youth and community members could gather, create, and learn together. They sought to blend recreational and educational spaces to support skill development in areas like music, art, fitness, and traditional teachings, while also creating a venue for community events.
The design includes a large flex space equipped with mobile furniture, a projector, and a screen, allowing seamless transformation for various events, from educational workshops to community gatherings. A dedicated craft room offers ample storage and workspace, encouraging creativity through group activities, classes, and independent projects. The vibrant music room, enhanced with acoustic features, invites exploration and self-expression.
To support staff and community operations, a separate office and boardroom wing provides functional workspaces adjacent to the shared areas. Additionally, a fitness center, accessible both from inside the building and via a separate after-hours entrance, supports group and individual fitness activities.
