Dumont Lodge
Every square foot of Dumont Lodge is an educational tool. With the guidance of Elders, everything from traditional Métis framing techniques to windows to floor tiles have been designed to reflect Métis culture.
Project Summary
Elder Albert LeClair had an idea for a special place where Elders felt comfortable, at home, and could help Métis children and youth reconnect to their identity through their Métis traditions, culture, values, and language. Now, that vision is a reality with the opening of Dumont Lodge on the sacred grounds of Batoche.
The Dumont Lodge features large activity spaces and common areas, a cultural room, and a commercial kitchen along with sleeping rooms for the Riel Scouts to learn and explore. Notable design features include a fireplace modeled after a map of Saskatchewan, as well as a large compass gracing the dining room floor.
Using 3twenty’s modular building process, the Lodge was constructed in 16 separate “building blocks”, 14 of which were built in and shipped from 3twenty’s yard in Saskatoon and 2 which were built on-site.
