Designed with care and intention, Miakoda will serve as a lasting space for healing, safety, and new beginnings.

Project Summary

Miakoda is a 5,865-square-foot transitional housing project in Prince Albert. It was developed in partnership with PA Community Housing Society Inc. to support Métis women and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, along with their children, who are fleeing interpersonal violence.

The building includes eight private suites. In addition, it offers flexible programming space and shared living and kitchen areas. These spaces encourage connection, safety, and healing. Trauma-informed design principles guided the project throughout. As a result, the building prioritizes durability and security while remaining comfortable, welcoming, and home-like for residents.

The team collaborated with Christine Marie of Awasis Boutique to thoughtfully integrate Métis cultural elements into the space. These features include a custom carpet design, artwork in the reception area, and distinctive shutter detailing. Together, they help foster a strong sense of identity and belonging.
